Aesthetic dentistry
We aim for all our dentistry to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible, whilst at the same time respecting tooth tissues from unnecessary damage.
The use of natural coloured composite restorations allows them to be disguised and blend into the natural tooth ith a minimum of damage.
More advanced cases may require the use of veneers, crowns or bridges.
Crowns, bridges and veneers
Veneers are used to improve the appearance and cover the front surface of a tooth. There is very little preparation of the underlying tooth which helps conserve its strength. They are usually made of porcelain.
Crowns are used for more damaged teeth. They can both strengthen and improve appearance of the teeth involved. They can be made from porcelain, porcelain bonded to a precious gold alloy or gold depending on requirements.
Bridges replace missing teeth. They can be supported from natural teeth or dental implants.
Endodontics
The procedure to clean and fill the root complex to save dead or dying teeth. Often root treated teeth need to be crowned longer term to help strengthen them and improve their appearance.
Periodontics
This is the treatment of periodontal disease which affects the gums, bone and other supporting tissues of the teeth. Although most individuals suffer gum inflammation from time to time, around 10% of the population appear to suffer from the more severe forms of the disease which cause loss of supporting bone. This group appears to be at greatest risk of losing teeth through periodontal disease. It is caused by the bacteria which regularly collect on the teeth in dental plaque.
Preventative treatment is the mainstay of treatment and we place great emphasis on this aspect of periodontal care to save teeth where possible. Occasionally teeth are lost but with advances on prosthodontics life like fixed replacements can be achieved using bridgework or dental implants.
